The guy was charged 20 years ago with one thing! It was in Newport- for sexual assault. Providence police said he had 'long record' and crimes related to alcohol abuse. The guy has never been arrested in Providence County! Irresponsible journalism....Check your facts!!! Just because a police officer said it is true-does not make it a fact! You have resources to double check-use them!

In Warwick, school call rings too early for some
What a bunch of complainers! They should be happy to get early notification of the delay. We got the same call from our son's Catholic school at 4 a.m. today. Hung up the phone and went back to sleep.
Good grief.

ACLU files complaint against N. Kingstown ship company
How about our civil right to a job? An employer made a mistake in wording. When notified of the problem (via a lawsuit), they quickly corrected it. What is the problem?
If the ACLU were actually interested in civil rights, they would have worked with the employer to correct the problem instead of filing a lawsuit first. The do not stand for civil rights - they stand against the "tyranny" of evil corporations - the corporations that provide jobs - at least in most states, where corporations are not openly despised, sued, and taxed into oblivion.

This is unexceptable.. If you are the supt. then you should know how to run things. When the phone rings at that time the entire house is woken up to think of an family emergency.. This was a bad situation all around.

Gossip? on
Body found on Providence street ID'd as Coventry man
More importantly, if the guy had such a "long criminal record" for which he was known to police, why does there not seem to be any record of him in the RI Adult Criminal Information
Database?
http://courtconnect.courts.ri.gov/pls/ri_adult/ck_public_qry_cpty.cp_personcase_details_idx
If the guy didn't have a record, then mike's right, it's just gossip.

I agree with 12:02's statement. Adds nothing to the story except more sorrow for his family. Interestingly enough, a check of the Judicial criminal records website reveals no Paul Langlois of his age with any criminal record! While the author is at it, explain that to his family and your readers!

Coupons for converter boxes run into cash-flow problem
Liz
The government needed to have broadcasters switch from analog to digital because the analog signals take to much bandwith. This transition has been years in the making. TV makers have only been able to sell digital sets for the last year. The converter boxes for older sets cost around $45. The government gives you 2 coupons for $40 each. There fore you can still watch TV for a 1 time charge of around $10-$15. I am sure this change is not driving people to DTV or cable. You say"If the government wanted to make a mandate - they should have provided help." They have provided help. What do you want, the government to show up and install the converter for you?

You make a valid point, Mike. If they bothered to investigate this guy's past like that, I'm sure they could have found something positive to say as an end note. Maybe we're supposed to be happy for the police because they no longer have to deal with Mr. Langlois.

I agree 100%. They always do that. This guy died of heart disease. It is complete BS how they need to slander someone even in death. The author of this post needs to apologize to the readers and the deceased.

I agree, let him rest in peace...He died of a heart condition...it's not like he was trying to murder someone...He is still someones family, possibly a brother or son...

I agree with the comment- why put personal info in this story or any story like this? No one needs to know this persons personal information!

What is the point of putting the last sentence in about him being know to the police? What did that accomplish other then adding further insult to someone who has passed away? I challenge the author to give a valid reason why that was put i

Ice creates hazardous roads, sidewalks/ Photo
And the irony is...you actually found a sidewalk that had been cleared after the New Year's Eve storm. Hahaha!
Fact: all around greater Providence is, has been and will continue to be dangerous for pedestrians because nobody - least of all the city/state - clear sidewalks for which they are responsible.
These photos over at Greater City: Providence are of the I-95 crossings which - by law - should be cleared by DOT.
So thanks for the cracking "news" coverage, Projo.

As I drove to work this morning, it amazed me how fast many people were driving and how many people were driving with no lights on! Wake up people, adjust your speed to the weather conditions and put your lights on so others can see you!

Think twice about OCD treatment on
OCD brain surgery recipient dies of unrelated causes
Anyone who is considering any kind of OCD treatment other than non-invasive behavioral treatment ought to ask to speak with former patients for whom it did NOT work.
I have known a couple of people who had treatment done. They are not success stories. One was given the option as an inpatient, without having adequate information about the procedure, side effects, or long term effects such as memory loss.
People who suffer from OCD can be desperate to remove their obsessions, and it is shameless to take advantage of them for the sake of experimentation.

Yule log tradition on
Video: Discarded Christmas trees recycled in Riverside
What a waste of time, money, and energy.
There is an alternative to heaving the holiday tree onto the dump truck. Cut off the branches with your lopper and use them for winter cover on your garden beds, protecting them from frost heaves in the spring. They will decompose slowly and add nutrients to the soil. Use the remaining yule log in your fireplace next year after letting it season. Nice holiday tradition.
