PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- About 40 cats were taken Thursday from a Murray Street apartment. Most will have to be euthanized, said David Holden, the city's animal control director. Holden said he and other animal control officers went to the second-floor apartment at 68 Murray St. following a complaint by the building's landlord. The cats' owner is expected to be brought before Providence municipal court because she had more than the three cats that are allowed in the city per household, Holden said.

40 is excessive, but my husband has two boy cats, littermates who are best friends, and I'd like to get a pair of female kittens who are littermates from a shelter for me, to be friends with each other.
But that would be illegal.
How about 4 cats, city council? A threesome, somebody always is left out.
