H. Curtis "Curt" Spalding, the longtime director of the environmental advocacy group Save The Bay in Rhode Island, has been named the regional administrator in New England for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency -- the region's top environmental regulatory post. EPA administrator Lisa Jackson announced Spalding's appointment Thursday afternoon. The announcement ends months of speculation. Spalding has been in the running for months, but so were several officials in Massachusetts. The state's congressional delegation, which lobbied for Spalding's appointment, responded with praise, saying he demonstrated more than 20 years of commitment to the region's environment. U.S. Sen. Jack Reed called Spalding "exceptionally qualified for this job." CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published.
