Video: Police seize large quantity of marijuana in Woonsocket By Tatiana Pina WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- In the past two days, the Woonsocket Police arrested people from two families who they said were selling marijuana, and confiscated 145 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $145,000. Two of the six people who were arrested possessed medical marijuana cards, the police said. Woonsocket Police and Cranston Police, working together on one of the cases, announced the arrests during a news conference at Woonsocket Police headquarters Friday, where they showed off the materials they confiscated, including pounds of marijuana in reclosable plastic bags and black trash bags, pot plants and materials to grow them, as well as a 12-guage shotgun and some cash. The room reeked of the fresh marijuana. On Wednesday, the Woonsocket Police arrested Edward Thimas, 28, of Upland Road, Woonsocket, and Raymond Thimas Jr., 30, of Forrest Street, Warwick. Each was charged with possession of marijuana 5 kilos and over and eluding police. Raymond Thimas also was charged with resisting arrest, according to Lt. Eugene Jalette of the Woonsocket Police. Raymond Thimas had a medical marijuana provider card, according to Maj. John Schaffran of the Cranston Police. Schafran said the police had been investigating the brothers for months. He said Cranston Police responding to a call of suspicious activity at a location in Cranston ran into Raymond Thimas in July. They continued to investigate and later were able to link him to the alleged drug operation, he said "It was a complete abuse of that license," Jalette said. A tip from Woonsocket Police Department's new tipline helped the police arrest another group of family members who the police said had been growing and selling marijuana at their Woonsocket home at 149 Earle St. The Woonsocket Police arrested four people at that house Thursday: Sean T. Hawkins, 24, of Woonsocket, was charged with possession of marijuana; Austin Murninghan, of 149 Earle St., was charged with 2 counts of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, two counts conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substance Act, and one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine. Corey Murninghan, 24, Michael Patrick Murninghan's son, also of the same address, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and conspiracy to violate the Substance Control Act. The police said Corey Murninghan had a medical marijuana card, although it is unclear whether he is licensed as a user or a provider. All men except for Hawkins are being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending a bail hearing review, Jalette said. The Providence Journal has been following is story today as it develops. This gives a bad rap for those HONEST Medical Marijuana Patients. A majority of the MMP are Honest and grow and use for their own ailments. Just like patients that get legal drug prescriptions form their doctors. there are a few that will abuse it and sell the drugs for cash!
Please note that this story is nat tipical of your RI MMP!
Thanks!

If it were legal all of this would have never happened to begin with. These guys wouldn't be growing or distributing anything since it would have been regulated like alcohol. To act like this isn't a common underground occurance is naive. This stuff is here to stay.. legalize it and make money off of it and put these people out of business. Who are the victims of this crime?

Abuse in the Medical Marijuana Program? Say it ain't so. The fact is there is no such thing as Medical Marijuana. It is not a legal drug approved for medicinal use. It's just a backdoor program for the legalization of marijuana.

Marijuana is not bad and has many good uses. it just has a government made stigma to it. we need to legalize it! Any one who drinks a glass of wine after work or pops prescriptions is NO different than someone smoking a joint. its only a plant and used just as God put it on the planet. Get over yourselves. the woonsocket police should of spent their time fighting the real crime in their streets.
I beleive in Medical marijuana and if you all learned facts and did not make your opinions based on government fed BS, you would understand and recgonize its merits.
instead of spending so much time and money trying to bust a working self sufficinet 50yr old who smokes a joint, focus on illegal immigrants, child molesters and the politicians robbing us blind

Seriously, these guys are no criminals. They have license, and if they do make money off of it, it could be wrong but people are struggling to get jobs out there and this ecomomy is not easy to live in. people have to do what they have to do to put food on the table! It's marijuana, not crack or heroin. police really need to get more excited when they bust people selling those drugs! u never hear marijuana giving people over dose or people dying. Lets be real here! Marijuana should be legal. And I'm a person that don't like to smoke, but see's nothing wrong with it. There are people out there getting killed. I really hope these guys don't get too much punishment! They are harmless and good people.

OK,, So my brother AND sister died from liver failure because of the legal use of alcohol. Hmm, I would rather have a live stoner family member than a dead alcoholic family member!!

Someday I imagine we will all live in a land were men and women alike are free to do what they choose to do with their own bodies. A world were one really does have right to pursue happiness as they see fit. Even if it is sitting at home smoking from a glass pipe.
