Children under 18 and anyone exhibiting flu-like symptoms are prohibited from visiting patients at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence and Westerly Hospital as a precautionary measure against spreading swine flu, the hospitals announced Wednesday. Westerly Hospital also announced that it will allow those under 18 to visit the maternity ward if they are siblings or significant others, and after they have undergone a health screening at the nursing station. The hospital is limiting patients in the maternity unit to two visitors, plus a significant other. The actions are similar to the ones taken by other hospitals in Rhode Island and elsewhere in the country. Two girls who have tested positive for swine flu have died in as many weeks in Rhode Island. -- Amanda Milkovits, with Associated Press reports. It use to be no one under the age of 13 was permitted into the hospital to visit a patient. I can't understand why they started to allow children into hospitals at a very young age to visit patients. People are there for a reason. To recover! Some patients are very sick and need their rest. I had a roommate last year that had 5 visitors in our room. The kids were jumping all around and touching monitors etc. Yes the parents of the children were there but they thought it was"cute". Please hospitals..for the sake of the patients keep the age set at 18!
