By Maria Armental NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- The police are searching through missing persons reports to identify a man whose body was found Sunday wrapped in a rug and left in a vacant lot. Police Chief Michael P. Gould Sr. said a woman who lives in the area found the body -- only described as that of a white man -- around 2:30 p.m. Sunday on the side of a private lot's path on Chauncy Village, located on Freeman Street in the town's Attleboro Falls section. Property owner Fred Bottomley told the Sun Chronicle of Attleboro the woman first noticed the rug on Friday, but did not know a body was inside. Bottomley said the woman was looking for evergreen branches for Christmas decorations and had permission to be on the lot. An autopsy is being completed Monday to determine the cause of death, Gould said. The North Attleboro police are investigating with the Attleboro police and the Massachusetts State Police.
