PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rhode Island has received its last shipment of vaccine against seasonal flu for adults, Health Director David R. Gifford said Tuesday. Some 5,000 doses of injectable vaccine and 20,000 of the nasal spray are on their way to primary-care doctors who did not get their full order. The Health Department is urging doctors to reserve the injectable vaccine for people older than 65. None of the new doses are destined for nursing homes, however. Gifford said that some nursing home patients have been vaccinated and some not. But he said a high uptake of seasonal flu vaccine among health-care workers will help protect them. In addition, two public clinics for seasonal-flu vaccine have been scheduled: -- Saturday, Nov. 28, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., South County Hospital Potter Conference Center, 100 Kenyon Ave., Wakefield. For Rhode Island adults age 19 and older. Bring insurance card. Cost without insurance: $30. -- Monday, Nov. 30, noon to 5 p.m., Twin River casino, Lincoln. For adults age 18 or older. Blue Cross and Medicare Part B accepted; all others pay $27. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published. Here we are, living in the (chuckle) most "prosperous" nation in the world - yet there will be a good percentage of people who do not work in healthcare (and therefore vaccinated at work if desired) who will not be able to get the seasonal flu vaccine...why? did our high profit pharmaceutical companies not make enough? Did our federal governmet as usual cave to big business and not demand that enough be produced? "Best" healthcare in the world here in the US of A? Hardly! What a friggin' joke healthcare (read access to) is in this country - what another friggin' joke our lawmakers are (both sides of the isle.) the most "prosperous" if you already HAVE prosperity.
