By Mike McKinney and Felice Freyer PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A woman died Monday of a suspected case of swine flu, Health Director David R. Gifford said Tuesday at a news briefing. He said she had several underlying illnesses and was between 40 and 50 years old. She was admitted to an unnamed hospital over the weekend. If swine flu is found to be the culprit, she will be the third adult to die of the virus since it arrived here last spring. A woman between 40 and 60 died July 3 and an elderly man died Aug. 4. Both had underlying health conditions and lived in Providence County. Since Sept. 1, 53 people in Rhode Island have been hospitalized with influenza. I am sick and tired, as a health care professional of hearing about "other underlying causes".
What are the other underlying causes? Perhaps
a history of asthma or allergies, a cold, what does this mean?
Why are the reporters not investigating and including in their articles the other factors that might be contributing to these deaths!
Or is it just to toss the public off guard that
this is a deadly illness that basic colds or
breathing condions are contributing to the deaths!
My son suffers from asthma. Is he at a higher risk for death if he gets infected? If so it would appear he would be, and other children with the same conditions, eligable for the first round of immunizations.
Why are healthcare people in the state not being given immunizations? We work with many sick people every day and can transfer it from person to person if we are contageous.

To the person who syas "go away swine",
This is not just a report of the swine flu, or the news about it. This person in the report who just passed away was a good friend, and she will be deeply missed. Before commenting like that, you should show some sympathy for friends and family. She was a human being, a beauiful human. The pain of loosing a loved one to this flu, is different from feeling annoyed with the news. If you don't see this, I am sorry for you. Take the time to think before you type because I am sick of ignorance!!!!!
