Television ratings for the November sweeps show Channel 12, WPRI-TV, beating its local rivals in the Nielsen ratings in the 11 p.m. time slot. Channel 12 said it's the first time that's happened since 1993. Meanwhile, Channel 10, WJAR-TV, long the dominant station in the market, holds onto its lead at 6 p.m., traditionally considered a station's flagship newscast. Numbers show Channel 12 with a 6.7 rating, 13 share at 11 p.m., compared to a 6 rating, 12 share for Chanel 10, and a 2.7 rating, 5 share for Channel 6, WLNE-TV. The rating is the percentage of the 623,000 households with television in the Providence/New Bedford market, so each rating point represents 6,230 households. The share is the percentage of televisions in use. At 6 p.m., Channel 10 led with a 10.1 rating, 19 share, followed by Channel 12 with a 7.1 rating, 13 share and Channel 6 with a 2 rating, 4 share. Sweeps, held four times a year, are used by stations to help set advertising rates.

I am NOT AT ALL surprised that Channel 12 is tops at 11:00. At least they show Wild Money numbers and daily numbers at pretty much the same time every night. They are concise, present the news intelligently and very rarely misspell.
I used to NEVER watch Channel 12 - it was always Channel 10, but Channel 10 screws up SO much (mispronouncing and misspelling) and I can only look at Barbara Morse's flea market outfits just so many times.

WJAR is all automated now, so that's why they always screw up. (Did anyone catch the Art Lake special? HORRIBLE.) WPRI has held on to the same talent, unlike channel 10, which has few reporters and staff. No surprise here.

The Jay Leno show is killing NBC Affiliates. This is a national trend that I'm surprised Andy Smith did not mention.
