Lynch: Woonsocket broke R.I. public records law

PROVIDENCE _ The City of Woonsocket violated the Access to Public Records Act when it failed to respond to a request from the local firefighters union seeking records involving the recent layoff of 11 city firefighters.

Attorney General Patrick Lynch ordered city officials to respond to a request from Woonsocket Firefighters, Local 732, within 10 business days of the finding Oct. 28.

Last April, Lt. Steven R. Reilly, president of the Woonsocket firefighters union, sent a certified letter to Mayor Susan Menard seeking the records and payments to any ``vendor, attorney or arbitrator,'' involved in the decision to layoff the firefighters last winter.

``Not only did the City of Woonsocket fail to respond to Lieutentant Reilly's request, but the city failed to communicate with him at all,'' Lynch said.

Lynch said that the city could still be found liable of a $1,000 civil fine if it is found to have committed a ``knowing and willful violation.''

Another idiotic decision on what is, for all intents and purposes, a non-issue...wherein important cases are all but ignored, swept under the rug and/or Plea-Pargained away! (All of the above!!)

But, why should we be surprised...this one involves another Public Employee's Union.... the worst of the lot, behind the teachers - so you would expect a decision such as this wherein so much AR$E kissing takes place!!
