This is the very reason that families with loved ones affected by alzheimers need to be told about the risks they are exposing their loved ones to. Early stages of the illness is one thing, but as it progesses, I believe, it is neglectfull to keep them in an unsecured environment. So, let's look at the picture. The visiting nurse noticed him missing, where was his wife, the caretaker?
People with alzheimers cannot be left alone, even when they are sleeping, for any length of time. Simple as that. Keeping them home is selfish and is only for the benefit of the family, it has nothing to do with the affected person as they are no longer the person once known. Accepting this fact will give the Alzheimers person a better chance at some level of living with comfort as they progress in the disease.
