PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The police are investigating after a 20-year-old Providence man was shot in the arm while pedaling his bicycle in the city's Mount Pleasant neighborhood Monday night. Marvin Medina was taken to Rhode Island Hospital shortly after 9 p.m. with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Capt. James Desmarais said Tuesday morning. Medina was bicycling on Fairview Street, near the intersection with Gray Street, when a car pulled alongside him and someone inside exchanged words with him, Desmarais said. Someone fired at least 10 shots, striking him once in the arm, the police said Monday. Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting is gang-related. When the police arrived, Medina was hiding in a yard, Desmarais said Tuesday. The police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting, Desmarais said. The hospital had no Marvin Medina listed in their records, according to a spokeswoman. -- With reports from Journal Staff Writer Kate Bramson This story was originally published at 7:20 a.m. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. 10 shots and 1 hit what they were aiming for? Imagine the danger to innocent bystanders because these really 'bright people' have no clue how to use a firearm. These city people toting guns seem to just keep getting dumber and dumber...
