WARWICK, R.I. - A 22-year-old city man is in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital Thursday morning after the police say he was shot in the lower torso during a "house invasion"-style robbery. Matthew McGowan underwent surgery and his condition had stabilized at the hospital, Col. Stephen M. McCartney said in a statement issued Thursday around 8:30 a.m. At the time, McCartney said the man was in critical condition. Just before 9 a.m., hospital spokeswoman Jill Reuter said McGowan was in serious condition. When the police who were called to McGowan's residence at 8 King St. at 11:14 p.m. Wednesday for a report of shots fired, police officers saw and chased two males who were running from the multi-family building, McCartney said. They did not apprehend the men after what the police say was a short chase, according to the police statement. The police do not believe the shooting in the Pontiac neighborhood was a random act, but rather the home was a specific target, McCartney said. No one has been arrested, and detectives continue to investigate. Witnesses have told the police that two men knocked on the door and forced their way into the apartment. In an ensuing struggle with McGowan and his wife, shots were fired from what the police believe is a large caliber weapon, McCartney said. This is a tragedy. This young man shot for NO reason but to protect his wife and take a bullet. People PLEASE PRAY for Matthew!!! I am his grandmother and i just buried his dad & mother 3 years ago. I cannot take another senseless death to my family. These animals need to be caught, if you have any information please contact the Warwick Police. Please Pray+++

Lots of prays are going out for you Matty. Jesus will Heal!!! People remember the $5000.00 REWARD I am offering for the arrest and conviction of these cowards that not only shot you, but beat you with kicks after shotting you. Call Warwick Police or State Police with any information that can help solve this sensless shooting and beating. Personally I a Viet Nam Vet would like to save the money but will honor the REWARD money offered if soloved. This violent crime needs to be solved so people keep praying and offer any info that will help capture these coward/animals and take them off our streets! This could be you!!!

Love you matty.God is answering all the prays for you.I am offering a $5000.00 REWARD for the information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the cowards/animals that shot and beat you as you laid there with a gunshot to your body!!! Please contact the Warwick Police Dept. or State Police Dept. with any info that will lead to the capture of these cowards/animals with guns. Personally this Viet Nam Vet would like to save the Reward Money but will pay it to the person that comes forth and helps solve this case!
