PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A statewide grand jury on Wednesday indicted Gerrit Musterd, also known as Jose Manuel Almeida Rodriguez, on charges of murder, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, conspiracy to commit murder and carrying a pistol without a license. The indictment alleges that Musterd, 38, of 119 Fuller Ave., Central Falls, murdered Michael Benson, 33, of 155 Devonshire St., Providence, on or about Sept. 2 in Pawtucket. Musterd is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions. He will be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on Monday. The victim was found shot to death in his car on Newell Avenue near Hayward Street. Benson owned Premium Paving and Construction in Central Falls. He had been released from the Adult Correctional Institutions on July 15, according to Tracey Zeckhausen, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections, after serving a sentence for receiving stolen goods. In 2003, he served time in prison for delivery of a controlled substance, she said. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published.
