The two lane splits on Route 95 in downtown Providence that began last week are still the big news in the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's weekly traffic report. The lane splits will be removed by the end of the year. Additional changes in this traffic pattern will be announced in advance. Another split Providence: I-95 NB, after Exit 19 (I-195), a new traffic pattern is in place. All lanes shift to the left, and then split with two lanes to the left and one lane to the right of the split. All lanes continue on I-95 NB but motorists must stay right to access Exit 21 (Broadway). The pattern will be in place until late October/early November. Weekend work Overnight Providence: I-95 NB from Exit 19 (I-195) to Exit 22 (Downtown), alternating lane closures for construction, Tuesday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Providence: I-95 SB from Exit 21 (Atwells Ave.) to Exit 19 (Eddy St.), alternating lane closures for construction, Tuesday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Providence: I-195 WB from Exit 3 (Gano St.) to I-95 North, alternating lane closures for construction, Tuesday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Weekday Continuing West Greenwich: I-95 NB & SB between Exit 5 (Rte. 102) and Exit 6 (Rte. 3), motorists will find a new traffic pattern with two narrowed lanes in each direction split on either side of a temporary barrier. Oversized vehicles use Rte. 3 to detour. Other Limited Access Highway Restrictions Weekend Warwick: Rte. 37 EB & WB, from Exit 5 (Post Rd.) to Exit 4 (I-95), possible shoulder closures for bridge inspection, Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Weekday Bristol/Portsmouth: Rte. 114 on the Mt. Hope Bridge, one lane of alternating traffic for bridge work by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Newport/Jamestown: Rte. 138 EB and WB on the Pell (Newport) Bridge, various single-lane closures for bridge deck repair by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. North Smithfield: Rte. 146 NB, at the Forestdale exit, left lane closed for construction, Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Continuing Regional Restrictions Metropolitan Providence Weekend Overnight Providence: Atwells Ave., from Valley St. to Harris Ave., road closed for paving, Tuesday & Wednesday nights from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Follow detour using Eagle St., Valley St., Newark Ave., and Academy Ave. Weekday Providence: Dean St., from Atwells Ave. to Broadway, road closed for sidewalk construction, Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. NB traffic detour using Broadway, Service Road No. 8 and Atwells Ave. SB traffic detour using Atwells Ave., De Pasquale Ave. and Broadway. Road will be open SB only from 7-9 a.m. Providence: Atwells Ave. EB & WB, from Valley St. to Harris Ave., right lane closed for sidewalk construction, Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Continuing Providence: The City of Providence has scheduled numerous resurfacing and reconstruction projects this fall. North Smithfield: School St. Bridge over Rte. 146 closed to traffic, with a detour in place. Overnight Westerly: Rte. 1 NB & SB from Bellaire St. to just east of Robin Hollow Lane, various lane closures for resurfacing, Monday-Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Weekday Narragansett: Rte. 108, south of Route 1 at the Dillion Rotary, possible lane closures for construction. Lane or shoulder closures possible in the rotary itself, Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Richmond: Rte. 138 EB and WB, from Richmond Townhouse Rd. (Rte. 112) to Beaver River Rd. various lane restrictions for resurfacing, Tuesday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. South Kingstown: Main St., from Columbia St. to High St., various lane closures for crosswalk installation, Tuesday-Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Continuing West Bay Weekend Overnight Weekday Continuing West Warwick: Providence St. (Rte. 33) from Legion Way to Elm St., lanes closed for cold planing and resurfacing, Tuesday- Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour in place for Providence St. EB only. Lane restrictions also possible on Legion Way, from Main St. to Providence St., due to sidewalk construction. Detour and construction maps available online.
