These are stories The Providence Journal is watching today. Lawyers for the Twin River slot parlor are due back in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Providence at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Lawyers for UTGR Inc., the holding company that operates the slot parlor, are expected to update U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Arthur N. Votolato on procedural matters in the slot parlor's federal bankruptcy case. A federal magistrate has scheduled a settlement conference for Tuesday afternoon with the two sides in a long-running legal dispute over a handful of Dunkin' Donuts shops in and around Providence. A Vermont businessman has been trying to win back control of the shops since 2006, when the Canton, Mass.-based chain forced the sale of the outlets in a court-supervised auction.
