By Marley Seaman CVS Caremark Corp. says it is launching a program for customers who reuse shopping bags, with card members getting $1 coupons for every four times they reuse a bag. For 99 cents, members of CVS' ExtraCare rewards program will get a leaf-shaped Green Bag Tag card, which can be attached to a cloth bag or knapsack. When they complete their purchases, the card will be scanned. After every fourth shopping trip, a $1 Extra Buck coupon will be printed on their receipt. The Woonsocket, R.I., company said most of its 7,000 stores will have the tags within the next two weeks, and the program should be running at all stores by the end of November. Some of the money raised from the 99-cent tags in 2010 will be donated to an ecological cause, CVS said, but details have not been completed. Such credits are fairly common among supermarkets, but the size of CVS' credit is unusual. Many supermarkets, such as Super Stop & Shop, offer credits of about 5 cents for each bag not used. Whole Foods Market Inc. offers 10 cents per bag, or offers to donate the credit to charity. CVS said there are about 55 million ExtraCare cardholders. Members get rewards points on prescriptions and purchases of non-pharmacy items like makeup and food, and are eligible for special deals. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
