PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A movie written and directed by two women who met while attending Brown University will have its world premiere Monday at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Tanner Hall is about four girls at a boarding school coping with adolescence and their parents coping with middle age. Written by Tatiana von Furstenberg and Francesca Gregorini, it was filmed entirely in Rhode Island with local crew and talent. Produced by Julie Snyder and executive produced by Richard L. Bready, the film features an ensemble case of Brie Larson, Tom Everett Scott, Amy Sedaris and Chris Kattan.

Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & Television Office, said the movie made with the help of the Motion Picture Tax Credit program "not only promotes our beautiful Ocean State; it is being recognized at the renowned Toronto International Film Festival. Once again, what started as a dream in little Rhode Island is now a real gift being showcased to a worldwide audience."

Von Furstenberg, the daughter of fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, said the natural beauty of autumn in Rhode Island led them to film in the orchards of Blackstone Valley and along the lakefront at the Mishnock Barn. She said the cast and crew lived in Providence "and everyone loved being there."

Also, Rhode Island looks great on film, she said.

Producer Snyder said that "In many ways, 'Tanner Hall' is a testament to Rhode Island filmmaking. I met our executive producer, Richard L. Bready, when we were both involved in starting the Newport International Film Festival," she said. She was delighted to find the "wonderfully moving script," by co-writers who attended Brown, and she knew Rhode Island has great scenery and "offers a nurturing environment for first-time filmmakers."

She called the Toronto International Film Festival the largest and most prestigious film festival in North America.
