DOT's traffic forecast includes changes on Route 95

The new traffic pattern coming into use Tuesday morning on Route 95 in downtown Providence is the week's big news, according to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation weekly traffic forecast. Here's the complete report:

New Traffic Pattern
Providence: I-95 NB, after Exit 19, a new traffic pattern is scheduled to be in place for the morning commute on Tuesday. All lanes will shift to the left, and then split with two lanes to the left and one lane to the right of the split. All lanes continue on I-95 NB but motorists must stay right to access Exit 21 (Broadway).

Overnight
Providence: I-95 NB from Exit 19 (I-195) to Exit 22 (Downtown), alternating lane closures for construction, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Providence: I-95 NB, Exit 21 (Broadway) closed for new traffic pattern set-up, Monday night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Providence: I-195 WB from Exit 3 (Gano St.) to Exit 2 (S. Main St.) right lane closed for construction, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Hopkinton/Richmond: I-95 NB and SB from Connecticut state line to Exit 3 (Rte. 138), various lane closures and possible ramp closures at Exits 1, 2 and 3 for resurfacing work, Sunday-Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Warwick: I-95 NB, between Exit 13 (Airport Connector) and Exit 15 (Jefferson Blvd.), alternating left and right lane closures for bridge inspection, Monday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

West Greenwich: I-95 SB between Exit 6 (Rte. 3) and Exit 5 (Rte. 102), lane closures possible for bridge work, Sunday-Tuesday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. New pattern NB & SB with two narrowed lanes in each direction split on either side of a temporary barrier. Oversized vehicles detour using Rte. 3.


Weekday
Hopkinton/Richmond: I-95 NB and SB from Connecticut state line to Exit 3 (Rte. 138), expect shoulder closures due to guardrail work, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Providence: Ramp from I-95 North to Rte. 6 EB (Exit 22B-C), expect narrowed lane for bridge inspection, Monday & Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Continuing
Pawtucket: I-95 between Exits 27 (George St.) and 28 (School St.) posted for use only by vehicles of less than 18 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

Other Limited Access Highway Restrictions

Overnight
Lincoln: Rte. 146 service roads with I-295/Rte. 99 interchange, various lane and ramp closures possible due to resurfacing, Monday-Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Signed detours will be in place during ramp closures.

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Rte. 24 from Exit 3 (Hummocks Ave.) to Exit 6 (Fish Rd.), lane closures planned on the following nights for barrier placement from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
• Sunday: Rte. 24 NB & SB, left lane closed.
• Monday & Tuesday: Rte. 24 NB, right lane closed.

Weekday

Bristol/Portsmouth: Rte. 114 on the Mt. Hope Bridge, one lane of alternating traffic for bridge work by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Newport/Jamestown: Rte. 138 EB and WB on the Pell (Newport) Bridge, various single-lane closures for bridge deck repair by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146 NB at the Forestdale exit, left lane closed for bridge work Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Ramp from Memorial Blvd. to Rte. 6 WB, expect narrowed lane for bridge inspection, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Continuing

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Sakonnet River Bridge (Rte. 24) posted for use by vehicles under 18 tons. Heavier vehicles must use alternate routes. The bridge is safe for passenger vehicles.

Metropolitan Providence

Weekday
Providence: Ramp from Memorial Blvd. to Rte. 6 WB, expect narrowed lane for bridge inspection, Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Atwells Ave. EB & WB, from Valley St. to Harris Ave., right lane closed for sidewalk construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Continuing

E. Providence: Willett Ave. (Rte. 103) from Charlotte St. to Metropolitan Park Dr., one lane alternating traffic pattern for paving following a gas main installation by National Grid, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work scheduled through the end of September.

Providence: Exchange St. at the Amtrak Station closed to through traffic weekdays for building construction.

East Bay

Weekday
Bristol/Portsmouth: Rte. 114 on the Mt. Hope Bridge, one lane of alternating traffic for bridge work by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Continuing
Barrington: Access to Mathewson Road from Rte. 114 (County Road) at the Barrington Bridge will be closed until late 2009 for construction of a retaining wall for the new bridge. Motorists should follow detour using Rumstick Road and Jennys Lane.

Newport County

Overnight
Portsmouth/Tiverton: Rte. 24 from Exit 3 (Hummocks Ave.) to Exit 6 (Fish Rd.), lane closures planned on the following nights for barrier placement from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
• Sunday: Rte. 24 NB & SB, left lane closed.
• Monday & Tuesday: Rte. 24 NB, right lane closed.

Overnight & Daytime
Middletown: West Main Rd. (Rte. 114) from Coddington Highway to John Kesson Lane, possible lane closures due to sidewalk and curbing reconstruction, Sunday nights, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; Monday-Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Monday-Friday daytime work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Narragansett: Ocean Rd. from South Pier Rd. to Point Judith Rd. (Rte. 108), motorists may encounter one lane of alternating traffic due to landscaping, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

West Warwick: Legion Way (Rte. 33) from Main St. to Providence St. and Providence St. from Legion Way to Elm St., left lane closed for sidewalk project, Monday- Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Detour may be in place for Providence St. EB only.
