R.I. House delays October return date by one week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A day after settling on Oct. 7 and 8 as the days the House of Representatives will reconvene, House Democratic leaders have decided to delay the return by one week.

The new plan calls for the House to return Oct. 14 and 15.

The agenda has not yet been announced.

House spokesman Larry Berman said a decision was made Friday to delay the return to business by a week because one key committee chairman, whom he would not name, was unavailable on the date chosen.

Senate leaders have not yet announced if and when they will return to consider judicial nominations and the unfinished business they left when they went on hiatus in late-June.

This...this is a joke, right? Are they really that afraid to make a decision?

Shame on our so-called reps.

So let me get this straight; state government business, during one of the most severe recessions in history, is delayed a week becasue one of the key committee chairmen is "unavaialble"? Publish the name so he/she can be voted OUT OF OFFICE! Why did they run in the first place if they have more "pressing" things to do than represent the folks that voted to send them to the state HoR in the first place. ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL!!!!!!

Isn't it a good thing we are not faced with the worst recession in 75 years, the second highest unemployment in the country, state and local governments unable to cope with huge deficits, and legislators that are apathetic to all of it. Imagine if they were actually responsible for some of this...........what a joke. Must be real busy with their law practices.

I guess that the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer aren't over and that they haven't been to Iggy's or Aunt Carries for chowda yet.

Ahhh, it's good to be da king. Why do something today when it can be put off to tomorrow?

Must be nice to take more time off to spend the inflated salaries they give themselves at our expense. This state is a joke. Really. They should be ashamed of themselves.

This is beyond their usual sense of entitlement.
What nerve!!! How DARE they put their personal business ahead of the business of the people who elected them. They are beyond DISGUSTING!!! Every one of those BUFFOONS who run for re-election should be ashamed of themselves. We MUST clean out the state house. THOSE JERKS ARE THE LOWEST FORM OF LIFE IN RHODE ISLAND.

Henry said:

What nerve!!! Is there something more important going on in RI than a depression and massive unemployment?? Evidently our ESTEEMED legislators think so. They are an embarrassment to the people of this state. Once again they put themselves before the people who elected them. The only good thing about all this is that they will have 5 weeks less to screw things up. Of course they will find a way to blame the governor. We must clean out all those buffoons in the general assembly.

Email and call your state representatives to ask for a detailed reason and rationale as to why the sessions is to be delayed in the first place! Also ask them if they will be paid for the time spent NOT in session.

While Ms. Gregg is doing a good job at reporting, the details and actual reasons behind this remain very mysterious!

billy and the boys dont want to face the music.the democtrats control this state but carcieri always seems to get the blame.the ga should come in and resign

Mike said:

They are a JOKE. They have no answers to the complete and imminent bankruptcy of the state. So they let the governor take the heat for trying to fix up the mess they created. This state has been under one party rule for 75 years-longer than the Soviet Union.
Be proud Rhode Island-and keep electing "the party of the working people" while they laugh behind your backs.

WE ALL SAY WE VOTE THEM OUT THIS TIME. WILL WE REALLY???????????????????????????????????????????

WE SAY THIS ALL THE TIME. THE LAST TWO ELECTIONS I VOTED FOR THE NEW GUY EVERYTIME I COULD.

PLEASE LET'S DO IT THIS TIME DO IT////////

October 7th? October 14th? Why not stay out another month or three? That will, undoubtedly, save us money. My rep, apparently, has no spine. I, therefore, hereby commit my time, energy, and money to unseating him.

they are probably meeting with their union leaders to see how to screw the taxpayers before more changes are made.

Medical marijuana. Gay marriage. A new state name.

These are the pressing issues of our day. If the legislature's only solution for our state's dissolution is to blame Carcieri, then please, take another month off. I'm begging you! It takes only 5 minutes to write an anti-Carcieri press release.

Rhode Islanders, you haven't figured it out yet, have you? Carcieri only proposes a budget. The legislature enacts a budget. The Governor might veto it, but that doesn't mean squat with the Democratic children in charge.

Sweet! I love this! Does this mean I can tell my boss that I've decided to go back to work next Monday instead of the upcoming Monday? No? What do you mean I could get fired for lack of accountability and responsibility....huh...then maybe I should run for public office; doesn't seem too hard, just agree with whatever my party says and disagree with the other party, kind of like how my kids behave.
