WOONSOCKET -- Six people, including incumbent Mayor Susan D. Menard, filed declaration papers by Tuesday's deadline, declaring their intent to run for mayor in November. The group included City Council President Leo T. Fontaine, unsuccessful 2005 and 2007 mayoral candidate Todd R. Brien, Steven J. Lima, 2007 candidate Michael A. Mello, and Raymond Riel. Those candidates will be able to take out nomination petitions next month, and if they submit them by Sept. 15, their names will appear on the ballot. If more than three candidates wind up filing, that will require a Sept. 8 primary. |
