NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- Because of the Wickford Art Festival this weekend, parking is banned on both sides of Main and Brown Streets from 5 p.m. Friday until the street sweepers have finished cleaning at about 8 p.m. Sunday, North Kingstown Police officials say. Overnight parking is also restricted on West Main Street (from Newtown Avenue to Brown Street) and on Franklin Street, Spink Street and Elam Street. The North Kingstown Rotary Club will offer shuttles to the Brown Street municipal lot from parking lots at the Wickford Elementary School on Phillips Street, Wickford Middle School on Tower Hill Road and Wilson Park on West Main Street. The service is provided by Rotarians seeking donations to support local charities. Shuttle riders are advised to learn when the last shuttle will return to their lot. People who require handicap parking can enter the municipal parking lot on Brown Street and inform a parking attendant to direct them to an appropriate spot. Wickford residents who have a police question or a special situation such as a wedding or other function are asked to call the North Kingstown Police Department at (401) 294-3316, extension 8201, before the festival. For recorded information about festival parking, call (401) 294-3316, extension 8699. During the event, the festival police detail can be contacted through the main police dispatcher at 294-3311. An officer will be on duty at the festival command post in the Town Hall Annex, 55 Brown St., for on-site inquiries. |
