PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The moon was out Thursday night, and so were the muggers in Columbia Park.

Two groups of visitors to the park told the police that three men robbed them at gunpoint in the park, off Michigan Avenue in the city's Washington Park neighborhood, at around 10:30 p.m. Some of the victims said they'd seen the muggers playing basketball at the park shortly before the robberies, according to a police report.

A 16-year-old couple told police that they were sitting on a park bench when the muggers approached them, pointed a gun at them, and demanded money, according to a police report. The teenagers said they gave up a cell phone and iPod.

Two young women and a young man who'd been sitting at a table said the three muggers pointed a gun at them and took a cell phone.

Isn't amazing that despite the stories everyday in the Projo about violent crimes in Providence some how the PPD is able to keep their statistics to historic lows. I wonder how they do it?Maybe a little fraud?????

Rhode Island law prohibits carrying a hand-gun without a license, except when going to a shooting range. I wonder why these punks were carrying a gun? Doesn't the law prevent that? Oh yeah, only law abiding citizens obey the law.

Where were the police hiding?
Full Moon and the nuts are out, people cannot even enjoy a moonlight night very sad indeed.
They need to give these tough giys a taste of their own medicine behind bars!!!
Want money - get a job and earn it.
Put them in jail for awhile - they need structure.
Sad society we live in.

I guess the "best Police Chief in America" isn't worth all that money after all. Crime is apparently on the rise.

Our ridiculously tough gun laws really stop criminals - NOT.............

Washington, DC's complete handgun ban hasn't fared any better, as they have become the murder capital of the entire country!

It's time to start letting every LAW-ABIDING citizen carry a piece, if they can qualify and if they so choose.

Oh yea, sure, the RI law!
The same "laws" say that you are to stop at a red light, but may proceed with a right turn only after stopping AND there is no oncoming traffic. Have you seen anybody following that law also? Even better, have you EVER seen it enforced???

Enforce laws against criminals! We do not need more laws against the tools they use. Do you really believe that a person who hacks up someone into 100 pieces with a dull butter knife is less of a criminal than one who shoots a gun?????? It's much easier to hide or dispose of a tool than a criminal who is the one to perpetrate the real crime.
