PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- After a stretch of pleasant summer weather, it looks like we're in for some severe weather this afternoon. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Providence and Kent counties. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted between 3 and 7 p.m. Some thunderstorms may be severe with damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning, according to the the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 60s to low 70s, and winds will be around 5 to 10 mph. Showers and thunderstorms are also possible tonight, according to the weather service.
