PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A farmer's market is scheduled to open on Wednesday at Rhode Island College and will operate weekly until October, the college said Tuesday. The market, in Parking Lot A near the Mt. Pleasant Avenue entrance to the college, will offer locally grown and produced items on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 14. The market will feature locally grown and organic fruits, vegetables and flowers; eggs; soda; jams and jellies; baked goods; a selection of teas and tinctures; artisan chocolates; ice cream; and specialty items such as herbal soaps, body lotions and natural care products; jewelry, plus all-natural pet treats. The market will also feature cooking demonstrations and tips from a representative of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. "Last year's pilot project turned out to be so successful. It really brought an entire new venue to the neighborhood and fostered a great sense of community here on campus," Patricia Nolin, organizer of the RIC Farmer's Market, said in a news release. For more information, e-mail Patricia Nolin, special assistant to the president, or call (401) 456-9854. |
