The Rhode Island State Police were busy Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning with five motor vehicle accidents on area highways, some of which were connected with the heavy rain that hit the area. Just one of those accidents was serious enough to send somebody to a hospital, according to State Police Lt. Brian Casilli. Casilli believes the injuries in that accident, which happened on Route 295 in Cranston Tuesday night, were not life threatening. More details about that crash are not yet available. Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, two more accidents caused emergency crews to close the left lane on Route 95 North at exits 23 and 24 in Providence, according to the state's Transportation Management Center. If you're heading out for your morning commute, take note that we may have more wild weather today. To keep an eye on traffic conditions, check out the state roadways via the Department of Transportation's online traffic offerings. You can find any traffic alerts describing accidents here and browse traffic cams to see real-time photos of the highways. Also, check out congestion mapping -- i.e., how heavy the traffic is - here and listen to or read the radio reports for the week about traffic and construction on specific roadways. In addition, you can check out the DOT's presence on the social networking site, Twitter, where the department sends all of its traffic alerts. The department also posts occasional "tweets" and blog updates there if there's a big winter storm or other incident that would affect the state roadways. |
