NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The town has canceled the fireworks extravaganza that usually takes place in Governor John A. Notte Jr. Park on Independence Day. The event costs about $20,000 and officials have decided that the town cannot afford to put on the evening event this year due its financial problems, said G. Richard Fossa, the chief of staff. "They're canceled," Fossa said. "There's not going to be anything at the park this year." CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published. The municipal unions should have stepped up and put on the show. With all the money they extort from NP citizens, its the least they could do. And waiting 2 days before an event to cancel it? Makes it look like a game.
