| ACLU, Narragansett in federal court over 'scarlet letters' »
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Narragansett Baykeeper John Torgan will testify before two Senate subcommittees Wednesday morning on the invasion of non-native species in Narragansett Bay, according to U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse's office. Torgan will appear at a joint hearing by the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee's subcommittees on Oversight, chaired by Whitehouse (D-RI), and Water and Wildlife, chaired by U.S. Senator Benjamin L. Cardin (D-M.D). The hearing will examine the threats of disease and invasive species on native wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's programs to manage these threats, according to Whitehouse's office. Torgan leads Save the Bay's programs to protect the environmental integrity of Narragansett Bay and its tributaries through sampling, research, and education. Torgan has researched wildlife habitats in the region, and testified at an EPW field hearing Whitehouse convened last summer in Narragansett to discuss global warming's impact on the Bay. |
