JAMESTOWN, R.I. -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will headline a high-dollar fundraiser on Jamestown Saturday evening under the sponsorship of U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy.

A range of donations is suggested in Kennedy's invitation to the affair: $1,000 to be a guest; $10,000 per couple to co-host; $30,400 per couple to be in the ``Speaker's Cabinet.'' The event will be held at the home of Princeton Review president and chief executive officer Michael Perik, and his wife, Elizabeth.

Earlier Saturday, Pelosi, Kennedy and U.S. Rep. James Langevin, will meet with business and civic leaders on Aquidneck Island to discuss how Congress is working to promote the development of new economic opportunities and job creation through investments in infrastructure, new energy initiatives, and education.

Pelosi and the congressmen will tour the newly constructed Child & Family center in Middletown and meet with members of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce at a reception at the Atlantic Beach Club in Middletown.

Pelosi was slated to be in the Ocean State Friday to attend the funeral of Mary (Dodd) Buonanno of Providence and Narragansett, a civic leader and the late sister of U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut.

Only $30,400 per couple to be in The Speaker's Cabinet? What a deal. I know it sounds like a lot of scratch to most folks, but Pelosi is throwing in 3 autographed bottles of her Extra Strength Botox.

Wow, you have to be a real political groupie (i.e. knucklehead) to pay $30K for a dinner of predigested platitudes. Oh ,well, in the commemerative picture it will actually appear that the Speaker is speaking to you and smiling at some shared experience. Some people pay big bucks to go to Florida and Baseball Camp with the stars. De gustibus non disputandum est.

I *really* hope this fundraiser was scheduled well in advance of July 6, 2009.

It would be really REALLY poor form to find out it was put together to take advantage of Pelosi's visit to Rhode Island for a funeral.

Can anyone point to a news story describing her visit which is dated earlier than July 7th? Or is it just a really bad coincidence that the first story I could find noting this handshaking-and-fundraising visit is dated one day after the passing of Mrs. Buonanno?

I guess no matter what the opportunity is, a politician will find a way to take it. Sad, really.

But remember, Democrats are the party of the middle class!

....Right?

Congresswoman Pelosi is a disgrace. I had concerns about Pelosi attending Mrs Buonanno's funeral because it didn't make sense that she place a personal trip on her agenda. Now, she found a way to avoid paying for the trip out of her own pocket so the American taxpayer could pay for her trip to RI.
When will the American electorate wake up to the likes of Pelosi and Kennedy and not return them to Congress.
I am so sorry for the Buonanno and Dodd families to be used in their time of grief by these arrogant elected officials.
