JOHNSTON, R.I. -- A North Kingstown man was charged with possessing crack cocaine after an officer who pulled him over Friday evening for failing to heed a stop sign saw the drug sitting on the console between the front seats, the police said. Stephen Montgomery, 35, was stopped at about 10:20 p.m. by Patrolman Michael J. Babbitt after driving through the intersection of Everbloom Drive and Plainfield Street. The cocaine was lying in plain sight, according to the police. Montgomery was released in $1,000 personal recognizance by bail commissioner Richard Finnegan pending a court appearance July 20. |
