Sovereign Bank branch in Newport robbed

NEWPORT, R.I. -- A man robbed the Thames Street branch of Sovereign Bank of an undisclosed amount of money at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, the police said.

The robber, wearing a white hat, tan shorts and a maroon shirt, handed the teller a note but did not show a weapon, the police said.
