PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A federal judge has denied Survivor winner Richard's Hatch request to travel to Samoa to star in the 10th anniversary of the popular reality TV show. Judge William E. Smith on Friday issued an order denying the travel request of Hatch, who is serving the final months of his sentence for tax evasion in home confinement. Hatch, of Newport, won $1 million on the first season of the Survivor show, but was convicted in 2006 of tax evasion. A jury found that Hatch had not paid taxes on about $1.4 million, including the $1-million prize. He received the maximum sentence allowed after Judge Ernest C. Torres concluded that he had obstructed justice when he "willfully gave false testimony." He was sentenced to 51 months in prison and three years of supervised release. In April, Smith denied Hatch's request to live in Argentina, his husband's native country, after he completed his prison term for tax evasion. On Friday, Smith again nixed Hatch's travel plans and denied his request that his motion, filed last Tuesday, be sealed because of the confidentiality of the TV show's schedule. The U.S. 1st Circuit Court of Appeals upheld his conviction for tax evasion and his 51-month sentence in February 2008 and the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal. Right up front I'm not a Survivor nut. I don't even watch TV, who cares. Now, I agree with punishment for all of the above. I also agree that there is a risk with this guy not coming back. I don't agree with the judge denying a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the event that put Hatch on the map. If a ten year reunion for something this special was happening every year, sure, don't let him go this time. There's always next year. I'm sure security arrangements could be made with CBS to help with the law enforcement issues. It's stuff like this where we can only hope that the judge is not allowed to attend a once only event to let him know what he's doing. Say his son or daughter's graduation, wedding, etc. I know that those kind of events don't compare to Hatch's situation but you get the drift.

Good. He thinks he's above the rest of us and the law. Pompous jerk.

Thank goodness the judge wouldn't let him go. The next thing you know, he'll want to be Secretary of Treasury.
