NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- An employee of Electric Boat was fatally injured in an accident at the company's Quonset Point manufacturing plant at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, a corporate spokesman said.

The employee, whose name has not been released, was taken to Kent County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Robert A. Hamilton, director of communications for General Dynamics Electric Boat.

The company has begun an investigation of the circumstances of the accident, said Hamilton, who was on his way to a briefing at the company's Connecticut headquarters.

Hamilton said the company is making counselors available to work with employees.

My condolances to his family.

I hope the Projo provides the same front page coverage as it does for firefighters and police who die in work-related (or even non-work-related) accidents.

Thank you for your kind words. This was my nephew who was killed. He was a great man who is leaving behind a wife and two children and many other family members who loved him dearly. Please keep them in your thoughts and/or prayers.
