(AP) -- Authorities say a body recovered from the Hoosac River in North Adams has been identified as a missing Connecticut man. The body of 21-year-old Gregory Hillman of Darien, Conn., was found in the river last Wednesday. Hillman, who had a history of mental health problems, had been missing since late June when he ran away from an ambulance that had been transporting him to a hospital for treatment. His father said he had threatened suicide in the days before he fled. Hillman's family had contacted The Providence Journal earlier this month, because they thought he might have headed to Providence. He had left e-mails saying he planned to drown himself. Hillman had previously spoken fondly of Providence and family members hoped somebody would spot him here and help save his life. The Berkshire District Attorney's office says an autopsy positively identified the body and determined the cause of death as drowning. Investigators say the death does not appear suspicious and foul play is not suspected. An investigation into the death is ongoing. -- With projo.com staff reports |
