Attention WaterFire fans: The famed floating bonfires will burn brightly over the July 4th weekend, thanks to a coalition of local hotels and restaurants. A special edition of the fiery art installation will take place Saturday, July 4, beginning at 8:45 p.m. and continuing through midnight. The lighting, which was not on WaterFire's initial schedule, is being sponsored by members of Providence's hospitality industry, including Cafe Nuovo, The Capital Grille, Mill's Tavern, the Westin Providence hotel and the Providence Biltmore. Besides the bonfires, the evening will feature a return performance of Starry, Starry Night, a new light-installation by WaterFire creator Barnaby Evans. In honor of the July 4th holiday, the installation's lights will glow in patriotic shades of red, white and blue. Saturday's lighting also coincides with several other July 4th events in Providence, including a 7:30 p.m. concert in India Point Park and a city-sponsored fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. |
