The Rhode Island State Police and members of the Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Unit on Friday seized more than 50 pounds of marijuana, $6,189 in cash and a stolen .40 caliber semi-automatic firearm after learning of a North Kingstown woman who was allegedly receiving large parcels of marijuana for a Providence man. The state police said packages sent to Elizabeth L. Mahoney, 37, of 69 Shady Lea Road, North Kingstown, were being shipped from California and contained fictitious information consistent with the transportation methods used by drug traffickers. On Friday, HIDFTA members conducted a surveillance of the house and saw a woman accept two large packages from a parcel delivery person. Shortly afterward, the woman and a man put the packages in a parked car. But before they could take off, the police detained them. The police identified the man with Mahoney as Orville Watson, 31, of 119 Alger Ave., Providence. The state police said that after a consensual search of the apartment they found a small quantity of marijuana. They obtained search warrants for Watson's residence and to search the parcels where they found the marijuana, cash, digital scales, drug packaging material, shipping receipts and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. Watson was charged with possession of marijuana -- over 5 kilograms, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, possession of a stolen firearm and conspiracy. Mahoney was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and conspiracy. The two were taken to the Lincoln Woods Barracks where they were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Richard Finnegan. Both were held without bail and remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions pending a review in 4th District Court. Watson was also detained for immigration purposes, according to the state police. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published.
