PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 1 p.m. Thursday. The weather service warns that some of the thunderstorms could be severe, producing large hail and damaging winds. The areas at greatest risk are western and central Massachusetts, northern Connecticut and southwest New Hampshire. The day should be mostly cloudy with a high near 81 degrees and a south wind of 3 to 10 mph.
