CRANSTON, R.I. -- The Cranston police have asked the attorney general's office to determine whether there were any traffic violations involved in an accident in early June that claimed two lives. Police Capt. Marco Palombo Jr. said no one has been charged in the June 7 crash on East Street that killed Thomas Kelly, 57, and Jonette Schultz, 48, both of Cranston. The crash occurred when a southbound car stopped to turn into 208 East St. Paul Gamba, driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, swerved to avoid the turning car, and entered the northbound lane, colliding with a 2000 Jeep Wrangler driven by Carmen Boscia, 46, of Cranston. The Jeep overturned and its occupants, who were not wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the vehicle. Kelly died the day of the accident. Boscia and Schultz were taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where Schultz died as a result of her injuries on June 16, Palombo said Thursday. Gamba was not injured.
