PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The state is growing the staff at the public career centers, where unemployed Rhode Islanders go for training and to browse job postings and meet recruiters. The state Department of Labor and Training Wednesday announced plans to add 19 new positions at its netWORKri One-Stop Career Centers. In all, the state runs five centers, in Newport, Pawtucket, Providence, West Warwick and Woonsocket. The temporary positions will be paid for by federal stimulus funds. Salaries range from $35,438 to $39,838. Rhode Island's jobless rate hit 12.1 percent in May, the third-highest level in the country. |
