PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Fire, its cause not immediately determined, raged through the upper floors of a three-story apartment building on Arch Street Sunday night. A Fire Department spokesman said it appeared no one had been living in the tenement.

Two firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Firefighters responding at about 7:15 p.m. to 42 Arch St. confronted acrid smoke and flames shooting through the roof of the yellow building.

The blaze was brought under control within a half-hour.
