WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- A man who took in an acquaintance who told him he was stranded in the city ended up at Rhode Island Hospital after he was choked, beaten and robbed by the person he took in, according to the police.

Keith Badeau, 32, of 627 South Main St., is in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital according to Woonsocket Police Lt. Eugene Jalette.

Badeau told the police he took in John L. Cioe III, 43, of 135 Pollen, Pawtucket, after he told him he was stranded in the city. The incident happened around 2:56 Friday morning. Badeau was putting in a movie for them to watch when Cioe came from behind him and grabbed him with this belt and started choking him. At that point Badeau blacked out. He later gained consciousness and remembered being repeatedly beaten by by Cioe, according to Jalette.

Cioe went through the house taking rolled coins, a jacket, socks, assorted collector coins, a wrist watch, gold chains and rings and put them into a black plastic bag and left. Badeau called the police.

Badeau was taken to Landmark Medical Center and then moved to Rhode Island Hospital, Jalette said.

Patrolman Justin Glode found Cioe carrying that bag with the items on South Main Street, a block from Badeau's residence, Jalette said.

Cioe will face a charge of first-degree robbery in District Court, Providence, Friday, Jalette said.

This man was given a chance to turn around his life around, and chooses a life of crime. A con is a con, throw his lazy butt in jail and let the system try helping someone else out. He has hurt a lot of people.
