Providence firefighter Stephany Blackwell, who works with Rescue 4, was among those who gathered at the firefighters' Local 799 Union Hall Thursday to assemble signs to picket the U.S. Conference of Mayors that starts tomorrow in Providence. The picket threat by the city's firefighters, who have been without a contract for several years, spurred several speakers, including Vice President Biden, to withdraw from the conference.
