John K. Martin, 32, died Sunday night, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, which described Martin as an innocent bystander at the Petro Mart located at 171 Coggeshall St. Meanwhile, the DA's Office and the New Bedford Police Department are seeking the public's help in identifying a potential suspect and a witness to the crime. The DA's Office has issued a news release with photographs of a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt pointing a gun at a man standing behind the counter. In another photo, a woman whom investigators believe witnessed the crime can be seen at the entrance to the store. Martin had been visiting the gas station's clerk, a friend, when he was shot Saturday night sometime between 8:30 and 9, according to the DA's Office. Anyone who was in the area of the incident or may know the suspect's identity is urged to contact the Detective Division at New Bedford Police at (508) 991-6300. Citizens can also give an anonymous tip by calling New Bedford Police's tip-line at (508) 99-CRIME. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
