WASHINGTON -- Alex Swartsel, press secretary to Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, is leaving public service for the groves of academe. Swartsel, as first reported by Rhode Island public radio, plans to go to business school at Yale in the fall. She will remain on the senator's staff partway into the summer. She was spokeswoman for Whitehouse during his 2006 Senate campaign and went on to join his staff in Washington. The move will be exciting but tinged with sadness over departing the office of Rhode Island Democrat Whitehouse, Swartsel said Thursday. Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated the year of Whitehouse's Senate campaign. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
