PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The off-duty firefighters and police officers who have been picketing the U.S. Conference of Mayors at the Convention Center moved back across the street to the sidewalk running alongside the Providence Journal building on Sabin Street around noon. The reason? "Pizza," said Paul A. Doughty, president of Local 799 of the Providence Firefighters Union. Doughty said the pickets were just taking a break from marching on the sidewalk adjacent to the Convention Center. He said they would return to the Convention Center side shortly.
