PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The picketing firefighters had applause Friday afternoon for a Providence mayor -- though not the current one. Former Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. walked across Sabin Street from the Rhode Island Convention Center mid-afternoon to the cheers of about 100 firefighters picketing outside the U.S. Conference of Mayors. They started chanting: "Buddy! Buddy!" Cianci, who served 4 1/2 years in federal prison for running a criminal enterprise out of City Hall, walked down the picket line, shaking hands with firefighters from Providence and other communities. What are you doing here, one asked. Cianci, now a radio talk-show host, held up his WPRO pass and said, "I have a press pass!" The firefighters applauded again a few minutes later when Cianci once more left the Convention Center. We are all aware that Buddy served time in prison & why he did so. The ProJo does not need to point this out every time his name is mentioned in an article. It's getting old now....

To the Providence Journal;
Yes, for the millionth time, we know. Can you ever do a story regarding Cianci without repeating this over and over and over? Maybe it makes you feel rightous, but no one really cares, especially Buddy!

Keep up the good work Projo. You can never report on this guy’s indiscretions enough. This thug has disgraced the office twice....two times as Mayor, two times resigning from office in disgrace. The fact that the firefighters adore Cianci is because he gave them a sweetheart deal to get their support that the people of Providence are still paying for today. MR. Cianci should just go away. I will never refer to him as Mayor because he has disgraced the office and does not deserve the honorary title of Mayor. I would no sooner refer to him as Mayor than I would refer to John Celona as Senator.
