PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence man has pleaded guilty to a charge of distributing five grams or more of cocaine base, the United States Attorney's Office announced Friday. Jeffrey Patrick, 21, is beind held without bail pending sentencing on Sept. 11. He faces up to 40 years in prison, with a five-year minimum, and a fine of up to $2 million. U.S. Attorney Robert Corrente said Patrick entered the guilty plea on June 18 before Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi in U.S. District Court. At the plea hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard W. Rose said the government could prove that on April 25, 2008, Patrick told an undercover agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that he could sell seven grams of crack cocaine to him. On May 9, 2008 the undercover agent and Patrick met to complete the cocaine sale outside the Broadway Mart. Patrick approached the agent's car and delivered a clear plastic bag containing cocaine base. The transaction was recorded by the agent. |
