PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Andrew Snead, 35, of Providence, was sentenced to 200 months in federal prison Tuesday for possession of crack cocaine and cocaine powder, with intent to distribute them, it was announced by Acting United States Attorney Luis M. Matos. Snead in March pleaded guilty to the offenses, which included possession of marijuana with intent to deliver it, before Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi in U.S. District Court. Lisi also imposed a five-year term of supervised release on Snead to commence after his release from federal prison. At the sentencing, Assistant U. S. Attorney Kenneth P. Madden said Snead had eight earlier state felony convictions for drug trafficking, drug possession and firearms possession. In sentencing Snead, Lisi described the defendant as a "menace on our streets" who is a "career offender" and needs "to be treated harshly." |
