Iway: Traffic backup appears to be ebbing

By 8:45 a.m., watching the highway cameras from inside the Traffic Management Center, Rhode Island Department of Transportation officials said the peak traffic had apparently passed.

The traffic backup -- which had extended to the Massachusetts state line -- had started to shrink.

"It's as we predicted," said DOT director Michael P. Lewis.
