PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- First there was the traffic caused by the Iway opening, turning a usually smooth trip from East Providence over the Henderson Bridge into a 10-minute ride at 9 a.m. And then, motorists hit the city of Providence, where two out of three lanes coming off the bridge are blocked by construction on South Angell Street, by Butler. Between the roadwork closing most lanes, and the traffic light, motorists seeking to escape the Iway were caught in a different jam -- adding about five minutes or so to the commute. Providence... real men of genius, blocking lanes today of all days. The Henderson Bridge looked like a parking lot this morning. Maybe a ferry would be quicker and safer.

10 minutes? Try 25 minutes from Broadway.
First, why today? Someone should be fired for this reason alone.
Second, why are the signs always placed right in front of the obstacle, instead of well in advance to alert motorists as to which lane is obstructed. This was truly stupid and unnecessary.
